Bay Area Construction & Remodeling: The Rojas Construction & Remodeling Story

By Tito Gutiérrez, Founder of Rojas Construction and Remodeling, Inc.

When homeowners start searching online for a general contractor, home remodeling contractor, kitchen remodeling contractor, bathroom remodeling contractor, or construction company in the Bay Area, they are usually looking for more than someone who can swing a hammer.

They are looking for experience.

They are looking for someone they can trust inside their home.

They are looking for a contractor who understands the difference between a project that simply looks good and one that is properly planned, properly constructed, and built to last.

I’m Tito Gutiérrez, founder of Rojas Construction and Remodeling, Inc., a residential construction and remodeling company based in Walnut Creek, California, serving homeowners throughout the East Bay and Bay Area.

I’ve been working in construction for more than three decades, and I founded Rojas Construction and Remodeling in 2007. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work on everything from kitchens and bathrooms to whole-home renovations, structural remodeling, additions, ADUs, framing, flooring, foundation work, and other major residential construction projects.

What I’ve learned is simple:

A successful remodeling project starts long before construction begins.

What Makes a Good Bay Area General Contractor?

A home remodel is a major investment.

Whether you’re remodeling a small bathroom or transforming your entire home, the contractor you choose can make a tremendous difference in the experience and the final result.

A good Bay Area general contractor needs more than construction skills.

They need to understand:

  • Project planning
  • Structural considerations
  • Building materials
  • Framing
  • Plumbing
  • Electrical coordination
  • Flooring
  • Drywall
  • Tile installation
  • Cabinets and countertops
  • Finish carpentry
  • Building codes
  • Permitting and inspections
  • Subcontractor coordination
  • Scheduling
  • Communication
  • Problem solving

Most importantly, they need to understand that they are working in someone’s home.

At Rojas Construction and Remodeling, we take that responsibility seriously.

Kitchen Remodeling in Walnut Creek and the East Bay

The kitchen is often the heart of the home.

A kitchen remodel can completely change the way a family uses and enjoys their house.

Some homeowners want a modern kitchen with new cabinets, countertops, backsplash, flooring, lighting, and appliances.

Others want something much bigger.

They may want to remove walls, open the kitchen to the living room, create a larger island, improve the layout, add lighting, or completely reconfigure the space.

That’s where experience becomes especially important.

Open-Concept Kitchen Remodeling

One of the most common goals I see is creating an open-concept kitchen.

But before removing a wall, you have to determine what that wall is doing.

Is it load-bearing?

Is there plumbing or electrical inside?

How is the existing structure transferring the load?

Will a beam be required?

Does the new opening require structural engineering?

These aren’t questions that should be answered after the demolition starts.

They should be considered during the planning process.

At Rojas Construction and Remodeling, we have experience with load-bearing wall removal, structural openings, beam installations, framing modifications, and structural remodeling designed to transform closed-off spaces into functional open-concept homes.

Bathroom Remodeling in Walnut Creek and the Bay Area

A bathroom remodel can be one of the most noticeable improvements you can make to your home.

But a beautiful bathroom requires more than choosing attractive tile.

Proper bathroom remodeling involves careful attention to:

  • Shower waterproofing
  • Shower pans
  • Drainage
  • Plumbing
  • Ventilation
  • Framing
  • Tile installation
  • Shower slopes
  • Fixtures
  • Vanities
  • Flooring
  • Lighting
  • Waterproofing details
  • Finish work

A bathroom may look perfect when it’s finished, but what’s behind the tile is just as important as what you see.

That’s why proper preparation and construction techniques matter.

Rojas Construction and Remodeling has completed bathroom renovations ranging from straightforward updates to complete bathroom transformations involving new showers, plumbing, tile, flooring, vanities, lighting, and finish work.

Whole-Home Remodeling

Sometimes a homeowner doesn’t need another house.

They need to transform the house they already have.

A whole-home remodel can involve updating multiple areas of an existing property while creating a more functional and cohesive design.

This may include:

  • Kitchen remodeling
  • Bathroom remodeling
  • Flooring
  • Interior painting
  • Baseboards and trim
  • Doors
  • Framing
  • Electrical upgrades
  • Plumbing
  • Structural modifications
  • Lighting
  • Interior layout changes
  • Additions
  • Exterior improvements

Whole-home remodeling requires coordination.

One part of the project affects another.

That’s why having an experienced general contractor managing the construction process can be so important.

ADU Construction and Home Additions

For homeowners looking to increase usable living space, an ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) or home addition can be an important investment in their property.

ADU construction and additions require careful planning because they involve much more than simply building walls.

Depending on the project, construction may involve:

  • Foundation work
  • Framing
  • Roofing
  • Plumbing
  • Electrical
  • HVAC
  • Windows and doors
  • Insulation
  • Drywall
  • Flooring
  • Cabinets
  • Bathrooms
  • Kitchens
  • Exterior finishes
  • Permitting
  • Inspections

At Rojas Construction and Remodeling, we approach additions and ADU projects as complete construction projects rather than isolated individual trades.

Structural Remodeling and Load-Bearing Wall Removal

Some of the most exciting remodeling projects involve changing the structure of an existing home.

A homeowner may have a kitchen separated from the living room by a wall.

Removing that wall can completely change the feeling of the house.

But structural remodeling needs to be approached carefully.

Depending on the existing structure, a project may require a structural beam, PSL beam, LVL beam, posts, framing modifications, or other structural reinforcement.

The goal isn’t simply to make an opening.

The goal is to create the opening while properly supporting the structure above it.

This is one of the areas where decades of hands-on construction experience can make a significant difference.

Why Experience Matters in Home Remodeling

I’ve been working in construction for more than 30 years and founded Rojas Construction and Remodeling, Inc. in 2007.

Over that time, I’ve learned that every house has a story.

Two houses may look similar from the outside but have completely different conditions behind the walls.

You can open a wall and discover:

  • Older wiring
  • Unexpected plumbing
  • Previous remodeling work
  • Dry rot
  • Structural issues
  • Improper framing
  • Hidden water damage
  • Previous repairs
  • Conditions that weren’t visible during the initial walkthrough

That’s construction.

Not everything can be predicted before demolition.

What matters is having the experience to recognize problems, communicate them to the homeowner, and determine the appropriate solution.

The Rojas Construction Approach

At Rojas Construction and Remodeling, I believe in what I call The Rojas Way:

Listen.

Understand what the homeowner actually wants.

Inspect.

Look beyond the cosmetic appearance and understand the existing conditions.

Plan.

Develop a clear scope of work before construction begins.

Build.

Use experienced craftsmanship and proper construction methods.

Communicate.

Keep homeowners informed throughout the project.

Finish.

Pay attention to the details that make the finished project feel complete.

That’s how I believe a remodeling project should be handled.

More Than a Contractor: Building Long-Term Relationships

A successful remodeling project isn’t only about the finished photograph.

It’s also about the relationship with the homeowner.

Over the years, I’ve had customers call Rojas Construction and Remodeling back for additional projects after we’ve completed their first remodel.

That means a lot to me.

A customer who hires you again—or recommends you to a family member, friend, or neighbor—is one of the strongest compliments a contractor can receive.

That’s the type of reputation I want Rojas Construction and Remodeling to continue building throughout Walnut Creek, the East Bay, and the greater Bay Area.

A Little About Me Outside of Construction

Construction has been a major part of my life for decades, but when I need to step away from the jobsite and recharge my batteries, you’ll probably find me doing one of my other passions:

Fishing.

I love getting on my boat and heading offshore.

There’s something about being out on the ocean, away from the phones, estimates, schedules, and construction projects, that gives me a chance to reset.

I’m passionate about chasing salmon, Dungeness crab, and bluefin tuna.

Fishing requires patience, preparation, persistence, and knowing when to make the right move.

In some ways, construction isn’t that different.

You plan.

You prepare.

You solve problems.

You adapt when conditions change.

And when everything comes together, you enjoy the result.

Remodeling Your Home Instead of Moving

One of the biggest questions homeowners ask themselves is whether they should remodel their existing home or move.

Sometimes the answer is to move.

But sometimes the house already has everything you need.

Maybe you love the neighborhood.

Maybe you like the location.

Maybe your property has potential.

Maybe the kitchen is too small, the bathroom is outdated, or the floor plan no longer works for your family.

That’s where remodeling can change everything.

You don’t necessarily need to find the perfect house.

You can take the house you have and make it perfect.

That’s one of the ideas behind Rojas Construction and Remodeling.

Looking for a General Contractor in Walnut Creek or the Bay Area?

If you’re researching general contractors in Walnut Creek, home remodeling contractors in the East Bay, kitchen remodeling contractors, bathroom remodeling contractors, ADU builders, or a contractor for a larger residential construction project, take the time to look at the contractor’s actual work.

Look at their projects.

Read their reviews.

Ask questions.

Find out how long they’ve been doing business.

Ask who will actually be managing your project.

And make sure the contractor understands the construction behind the finishes—not just how to make the finished room look good.

At Rojas Construction and Remodeling, Inc., we bring decades of hands-on construction experience to residential remodeling projects throughout the Bay Area.

Whether you’re planning a kitchen remodel in Walnut Creek, bathroom renovation in Pleasant Hill, whole-home remodel in Danville, structural wall removal in Lafayette, ADU construction in the East Bay, or another residential construction project, we’re here to help you understand what’s possible.
